Technology Entrepreneur Brian McIntyre Awards Scholarships to Collingswood,New Jersey, Students

$40,000 presented to eight graduating seniors

Columbia, Maryland June 4, 2004 — Brian McIntyre, Founder and CEO of WorkStrategy, awarded eight scholarships totaling $40,000 at the Collingswood High School Academic Awards Banquet on May 27th.  A former student and resident of Collingswood, New Jersey, Brian started the scholarship fund in 2000.  It was renamed this year in honor of his parents, George F. and Joan D. McIntyre, both of whom had been intimately involved with local charities and educational programs.

The 2004 award recipients were: Michael James Casey Jr., Anna Panek, Laura Erney, Merced Garcia, Samantha Milnes, Jennifer Schelpat, Ryan Schmidt, and Scott David Welch Jr.  Winners were chosen based on academic proficiency, extra-curricular activities, and desire to major in the field of science or technology.

“These scholarships mean a lot to the graduates,” said McIntyre.  “As business leaders, we can have a tremendous impact on their future through financial assistance and encouragement.  Collingswood High School has built an excellent program to prepare these students for higher education – we can help bridge some of the big gaps that exist in paying for tuition and other living expenses.  He added, “The community is pretty tight and programs like this will have a long-term influence on future graduating classes.”

“On behalf of the faculty, students and their families, we’re genuinely excited and grateful for Brian’s ongoing commitment,” stated Charles Earling, Collingswood High School Principal.  During the past four years, Mr. McIntyre has given over $140,000 to Collingswood High School graduates.  By supporting the educational and career aspirations of our students, we are planting the seeds for economic growth in our area.”

Mr. McIntyre, a resident of Ellicott City, Maryland, has started a number of successful businesses and non-profit organizations including:

  • WorkStrategy – an HR technology firm located in Columbia, Maryland
  • Working Concepts – an HR Consulting company he sold in 2002
  • Project VisionShare – a non-profit organization created to help Maryland-based entrepreneurs and business owners
  • Launch of the Entrepreneurial Center at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland
