Kronos® and WorkStrategy help HR professionals realize
the benefits of becoming a high performance organization

Orlando, Florida, April 15, 2004 — Kronos® Incorporated (Nasdaq: KRON) and WorkStrategy Inc. recently launched a seminar series, titled “Building a High Performance Organization”, which outlines methods for leveraging human resources (HR) technology to streamline business processes and increase workforce productivity. A key finding from the seminars is that organizations are experiencing frustrations building a business case to get approval for their HR technology initiatives, mining workforce analytics data, and optimizing workforce performance æ all while trying to align HR projects with corporate objectives. This announcement was made at the International Association for Human Resource Information Management (IHRIM) annual conference being held April 15-17 in Orlando. Kronos is exhibiting in booth #514 and WorkStrategy is exhibiting in booth #619.

Kronos, a single-source provider of HR, payroll, scheduling, and time and labor solutions, and WorkStrategy, a leading provider of innovative HR technology management services, are helping attendees glean from these seminars that by leveraging technology to automate and improve processes, engage employees, and optimize their workforce, they will be able to connect people to business strategies, invest in and measure results of technology usage, and align HR management with strategic business management objectives.

“By automating HR processes, organizations are able to reduce errors, increase accuracy and availability of data for better decision-making, remove chokepoints for faster cycle times, and rely less on human involvement,” said Bill Larkin, vice president of HRMS solutions for Kronos. “Once organizations automate their processes, they can then engage employees with self-service functionality. They are also better equipped to optimize the workforce by empowering frontline managers — resulting in reduced costs and improved productivity.”

During these seminars, attendees learn about best practices implemented by many Kronos customers across several industries. PepsiAmerica, Inc., the second largest independent Pepsi bottler in the world, is one customer highlighted. “Thanks to our Kronos system, we have increased staff productivity, reduced staff overtime, ensured consistent application of employee pay requirements, and provided labor-reporting tools to our remote locations,” said Adele McCarty, payroll manager at PepsiAmericas, Inc.
Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children, with more than 5,000 employees, is also becoming a high performance organization. With the use of Kronos’ labor analytics solution, the organization has been able to save $175,000 by reducing overtime variance. “Implementing the Kronos analytics solution gave us the data to create a dashboard report concentrating on salaries, FTEs, premium hours, and a comparison of the performance of each assistant vice president,” said Bill Nay, director of budget for Inova Fairfax Hospital. “Managers now have insight into critical business drivers and productivity has surged as a result.”

Kronos and WorkStrategy’s findings further validate the results of a survey conducted by Workforce Management, which was covered in the October 2003 issue of the publication. This survey found that the majority of today’s HR departments are still performing their jobs with manual processes. Of the respondents, the following percentages represent the use of paper within an organization:

• 81 percent for pay stubs
• 71 percent for performance management
• 65 percent for benefits enrollment
• 63 percent for life events
• 52 percent for time and attendance
• 45 percent for job posting

“HR professionals are looking for ways to get projects off the ground,” said Brian McIntyre, WorkStrategy founder and chief executive officer. “We found that it is often a challenge to work with the finance department trying to justify the investment in new technology. Our ‘Activity-Based Costing’ method is one of the key components of the seminar program. It helps attendees to identify the true expense of manual/obsolete processes and define best practice targets.”
