Brian McIntyre, Founder and CEO of WorkStrategy,
Pledges $100,000 to Assist Howard Community College
Five Year Commitment to Develop an Entrepreneurial
Center
Columbia, Maryland — February 3, 2004
— Brian McIntyre, founder and CEO of WorkStrategy,
a provider of Human Resource (HR) technology management services,
today announced a pledge of $100,000 to the Howard Community
College (HCC) Educational Foundation in the name of George
and Joan McIntyre, McIntyre’s parents.
The funding, provided through a series of grants and endowments,
will support the development of HCC’s emerging Entrepreneurial
Center. The primary use of the financing is to help design,
launch, and provide operational budget for the new program.
This initiative will offer local entrepreneurs a unique chance
to enroll in a well-planned curriculum focused on providing
mentoring, guidance, and educational assistance.
Key objectives of the program are to:
- Develop credit and noncredit courseware promoting entrepreneurship
and creativity
- Build an online portal integrating local business, HCC
educational resources, and existing county agencies
- Assist with community outreach program management
- Launch a “virtual enterprise” classroom environment
- Showcase student businesses to potential investors at
a “rocket marketing” event
“This is an exciting development for HCC and the entire
region,” said HCC President Mary Ellen Duncan. “Brian
McIntyre’s conviction that the college and the community
should expose students to business possibilities regardless
of their interest opens new opportunities for students at
HCC. Last year, a group of business leaders on HCC’s
Commission on the Future identified entrepreneurialism as
an area ripe for cultivation in our local economy. Mr. McIntyre’s
generosity and extensive expertise will help us create a program
to cultivate the creativity and industriousness abundant in
so many individuals. He is making a significant contribution
to our overall economic health and vitality, and we are very
grateful.”
“My decision to sponsor the HCC Entrepreneurial Center
was an easy one,” stated McIntyre. “Having been
closely tied to Howard County over the past fifteen years
as a resident, business owner, and entrepreneur, my family
and I have established a strong bond with the college and
the vision of Mary Ellen Duncan. All of us are proud and excited
that this program would carry the name of my parents.”
The new center will allow career-driven individuals to excel
in their field and provide a stimulating environment to gain
additional knowledge and share creative ideas – regardless
of their financial situation. “By offering individuals
the means to pursue their educational and career goals, we
can help foster growth of local businesses and give back to
our community,” added McIntyre.
